Calena Illan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. She works exclusively counseling in Winter Garden and Virtual counseling in private practice for Orlando Thrive Therapy, Coaching, and Counseling.
Calena specializes in teaching individuals how to overcome anxiety, achieve personal and professional success, develop healthier self-worth, better self-confidence, and enrich their connections with themselves and others. She is also a Level 3 Gottman certified couples counselor, making her the highest level relationship expert qualified to work with married, dating, same-sex, or co-habitating couples struggling within their relationship. She is also a Certified Yoga Instructor which often serves as a backdrop to her unique approach in helping her clients develop a better understanding of the mind-body connection for stress and anxiety relief. She believes that with greater self-awareness and the ability to learn how to accept and commit to change, her clients and couples can begin thriving, rather than just surviving. Calena's counseling expertise stems from a long history of successfully helping clients learn how to navigate healthy relationships, develop self-worth, stop co-dependency, set healthy boundaries, and build deep, loving connections with others.
Calena uses empowerment strategies to help clients that struggle with poor coping skills, negative thought patterns, and unhealthy behaviors. She is an expert in anxiety therapy techniques, relationship and couples counseling, and professional or personal growth coaching. Her work as a relationship expert and marriage counselor focuses on teaching couples how to repair their foundations, communicate more productively, and overcome trauma or insecurities within the relationship. She provides a sincere, open-minded, safe environment for any individual or couple to process difficult emotions. Calena incorporates techniques such as mindfulness exercises, lifestyle coaching, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities, that are specifically tailored to your unique circumstance, to ensure the most effective results. Through her experience in successfully teaching hundreds of couples and individuals how to overcome barriers, she has discovered that one-size-fits-all treatment does not work for lasting change. This is why she continues to educate herself in her area of specialty so that she is able to provide each of her clients with a personalized experience.

Calena received her Master of Art and her Bachelor degree from the University of Central Florida. Her clinical experience has began with non-profit agency work helping clients who struggle with addictions, poor boundaries, unhealthy coping skills, and toxic relationships. Through this type of agency work, she became more motivated to pursue additional certifications in her personal time that would expand her clinical skill set to the private practice setting. She became proficient in anxiety relief techniques, relationship counseling expertise, and self-empowerment modalities. Her work now includes married couples, same-sex couples, dating or cohabiting couples, and individuals who are struggling within life or their relationships. She looks forward to teaching clients the techniques she has mastered so they can get the most out of their lives and their connections with others.
