One thing I love about being an Orlando counselor is being able to create new ideas that I can implement into my practice and benefit the well-being of my clients. Two mental health counseling theories that I use in my practice are choice theory and reality therapy. These two techniques used by me as an Orlando counselor bring awareness and understanding to the choices that you have and where your focus needs to be. When you are stuck feeling anxious and depressed, or can't stop worrying about the future, or can't stop thinking about the past, these techniques can help put things in a healthier perspective.
Seeking the help of an Orlando counselor near you can help you reframe negative thinking and start taking action towards feeling better. Using choice theory and reality therapy in your mental health counseling sessions teaches clients to see their world from a different view. Ideally, for change to happen, the focus needs to be directed towards you, building your quality world, and establishing a successful fulfillment of needs for yourself.
This takes energy but not the kind of energy that you can go out and buy or get from a convenience store. How to develop a healthy mental health mindset requires a specific type of energy, which I call mental energy. Mental energy is the fuel that allows your cognitive functioning and thinking to be directed in the path that it is being directed towards. When your mental energy is constantly being shifted to negativity or worry, then your brain uses any mental energy it has trying to tackle this problem. The same is true for positive mental energy and action that your brain takes mentally to focus on those thoughts as well.
Every thought that you have and every action you partake in is being fueled by your mental energy reserves. What this mental energy gets used on is completely up to you so the question is, how do you know when you are using mental energy effectively? This can be broken down like this: Think of the wording of mental energy. The abbreviation of mental energy are the letters M and E. Looking at it, you notice that those letters spell a small little word that we often forget about in our day to day living-ME.
Mental energy for ME. I want you to write that down and practice saying it to yourself so that it sticks in.
This small little healthy metal health mindset shift can start fulfilling basic needs such as freedom, power, and even fun! Mental energy for ME-it’s your energy, and it’s your life! Be proud of your choices. Be proud of yourself. Don't be shy to reach out for help when you need it and talk to an Orlando counselor today.
