The First Step: Dealing With Life Transitions

Life transitions can be a scary and unwanted time in your life. They are sometimes things that you cannot plan and require dedication to be able to move past it. Winter Garden Counseling for life changes is a helpful resource for how to deal with life transitions positively. When you find yourself struggling with how to get over a major change in your life, you can feel anxious or overwhelmed. These feelings can make it hard to adapt to change and exercise resiliency.

Traits Necessary For Change

Being adaptable and resilient are the two major traits necessary for how to deal with change better.  If you are getting stuck trying to make things go back to how they were, then you will never be able to see the positive things that could come. Now you may be thinking, “But what if there are no positive things to come?” As any counselor in Winter Garden will tell you, and the title of this article suggests, the first step IS often the hardest. The most important key is to take a deep breath and realize that the first step IS challenging. It IS difficult. Winter Garden counseling validates that for you and helps you see past the first step to what is yet to come.

First Steps Leading To Change

Even for those of you who are in the middle or end of your journey, you can still think back to the first step.  It was daunting because you didn't know what is potentially coming down the road and that alone can lead to talking yourself out from doing something. The first step is like being in an empty white space with no direction around you. You stand there and think about which direction you should take. It is scary because of the unknown, but powerful because there is no overarching power holding you to go directly in a specific direction.

Taking Control with Choice Theory

You are the decision-maker and need to allow yourself the opportunity to make these choices on your own. It IS that first step. The first step is usually followed by the second step, and then the third and fourth steps until you start to accrue a pathway behind you. A pathway that you have built. This pathway did not exist before you but putting yourself first, focusing on what it is that you need to succeed, and thrive.  These steps ultimately lead you to be the best in your life by giving you the motivation, determination and push to achieve what you need to achieve. The first step is scary and overwhelming, but not as overwhelming as taking no steps. Think about it.
